Legacy Month

Hi, my name is Matt Rudisill, and I’m your host for this week’s episode of the Experts Game. We are going to do things a little different today as I do not have an Expert guest in the studio, but rather want to share with you a great video I found on YouTube. But before I get to that, I wanted to say a few words about Legacy and how important it can be in our lives. Do you remember someone or something during your lifetime that made you stop and pause or maybe thing a little bit more about what they said or did? Is there someone in your life who has been an influence to you and you wish you had a few more conversations with them? It’s very likely that you are thinking about someone near and dear to you right now. This person or group of people taught you many things while they were here. Maybe they helped you with a specific problem or issue you had. Maybe they showed you how to develop a skill or trade. Maybe they were just there for you when you needed to talk. Whatever the specific point, the bottom line is they’ve made a difference in your life and it was so important to you that you are actually thinking about them right now. I want you to think about how you can be that person to someone else. What can you do to make a difference in someone’s life? Can you help them with a project? Can you be supportive a little more than you have in the past? Can you speak words of wisdom in their life? Can you make an effort to pray and care for them?

This video I am going to share with you today is a talk by Jake Weidmann from TedXMileHigh (Denver) that took place in September 2018. What resonates with me the most in this video is the fact that I love woodworking and that Jake is a Master Carver and Craftsman. His message is about legacy, and he presents a beautiful picture of how important our legacy is, especially to our loved ones. As we continue through Legacy month here at the Leadership Academy and on the Experts Game podcast, I want to remind you that people are watching you. They are studying your moves. They pay attention to what you say and what you do. I hope you are of aware of this. If not, start paying attention as others are already doing. What are you going to do to build your legacy? What are you working on that can be passed on to others. Will you be happy with the message and the meaning of your life? We only have a short time here on earth. Live it to the fullest, and be happy. As my daughter reminds me almost daily now, “Make your light shine, because God told you to!”.
